ORSI-BC
The Bangalore chapter of the Operational Research Society of India (ORSI-BC) started functioning from 31st August 1988 with its first general meeting at the Indian Institute of Science. After adapting several resolutions aimed at the organizational aspects, representation of industry, computer software and student interests, it was decided in that meeting to have regular programs with as much emphasis as possible on the application of Operation Research.
Since its inception the chapter has arranged talks/seminars on various aspects of Operations Research. Some of these programs were arranged jointly with the Bangalore Management Association, Institution of Engineers (Karnataka State Centre), Computer Society of India-Bangalore Chapter, Indian Institute of Science, Indian Institution of Industrial Engineers-Bangalore Chapter, and Analytics Society of India, etc.
Its present membership is about 5 Institutional Life members, and more than 100 life members. It is now one of the most active chapters of the ORSI.
DoMS
The Department of Management Studies at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is one of the oldest departments of management in India. It has been running post graduate programs and the doctoral program since the mid-1950s. Being a premier research institute of higher learning, it positions itself to train students in futuristic areas like technology management, business analytics and policy analysis.
The origin of the department can be traced back to 1947 when the Section of Economics and Social Sciences was setup. This pioneering step was largely a result of the long-term vision of J.N. Tata, who had own the seeds of management education and research in the country. This vision was given substance by the resolution of the Indian Institute of Science to establish a "…Philosophical and Educational Department, including methods of education, ethics and psychology, Indian history and archeology, statistics and economics, and comparative philology."
